Salamonie
April 7, 2018
We began our day at Forks of the Wabash and ended at Lake Claire in Huntington. We traveled the River Road to Andrews and made our way to Salamonie State Forest and other stops throughout the resevoir property. We enjoyed Golden Crowned Kinglets all day long and the highlight of the day was the surprise of finding two flocks of American Pelicans on Salamonie Lake. The largest flock of about 70 birds was seen at the Mount Hope Boat Ramp and then a smaller flock of 15-20 birds was seen near Monument Island (?) viewed from the campground near the marina at Lost Bridge West. We ended our day at Lake Claire in Huntington where we enjoyed 7 Common Loons and a large raft of Lesser Scaup. We ended our day with 57 species, not bad for a cold and blustery day.
Our list:
Canada Goose
Wood Duck
Mallard
