Eagle Marsh

Stockbridge Audubon's field trip to Eagle Marsh was a double header:  a hike starting at 7:00 AM and lasting until 10:30 AM, and another from 4:30 PM until about 7:00 PM.  The morning temperature was 32 F at the start, rising to 45; sky was sunny, wind was calm.  By contrast, the afternoon temperature was about 70 F, the sky was still clear, but there was a strong wind.  I led the morning session, but had to leave at 8:30; thereafter, the route was chosen by a democratic procedure.  David Ward led the afternoon part.  Nine birders attended in the morning and seven in the afternoon, but some attended both, so there were 11 birders total.

Each session found 41 species, but each found some the other did not, so there was a total of 50 species for the day.

The first number in the list is for the morning, the second is for the afternoon.  No doubt some of the individual birds were seen both times, but they didn't wear name tags, so the actual total can't be known.
