Magee Marsh, OH

Nine enthusiastic birders set out for Magee Marsh early Saturday morning and we were rewarded for our effort! The north winds created large waves on the lake and the birds were hunkering down in the lower trees and shrubs along the boardwalk providing us with many good looks at the warblers. We got 16 warbler species. But I am getting ahead of myself. Perhaps the best bird of the day was our first stop along the causeway into Magee. A KING RAIL was calling frequently and skulking about in the shrubs at the waters edge. All of us got some good looks at the rail and for some of us it was a lifer. Not far down the road we made another stop and picked up snowy egret, semipalmated plovers and dunlin.
In addition to many birds we found Phil and Jacob Wixom on the boardwalk (or should I say Jacob found us!).
