May 25, 2013 Kankakee Sands and Willow Slough FWA
On a rather chilly, overcast day 12 birders from Stockbridge Audubon Society made its annual pilgramage to Newton County, looking for its western specialties. We found most, missing Upland Sandpiper and Western Meadowlark. In addition to the birds listed below, on the way from Fort Wayne we saw Red-tailed Hawk, Ruby-throated Hummingbird, American Kestrel, and Northern Mockingbird. Easily the bird of the day was a LECONTE'S SPARROW at the marshy east end of the lake in Willow Slough. It was seen well by several of our party.
