October 12, 2013 Maumee Bay State Park
Nine birders assembled for a field trip that was intended to be at Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge in Ohio. This was thwarted by the federal government shutdown. An attempt to chase a reported Nelson's Sparrow was curtailed by the presence of deer hunters (nobody was willing to risk a gunshot wound for a bird that might not be there). So we went instead to Maumee Bay State Park and walked their two-mile boardwalk through a lakeside swamp. - ED
