It started to rain as the eight birders for the Stockbridge Audubon field trip set out, and it quickly got worse. We spent most of our time on the covered back deck of the Nature Center. Most of us stuck it out until 10:15, and then gave up. We didn't do too badly considering the conditions.
* Some members went to Eagle Marsh in the afternoon to help with the Environmental Educators conference. Betsy Y. led us on a hike through the restored prairie; we saw an adult bald eagle, several egrets and cormorants, a huge flock of goldfinches and thanks to Rodger Rang a marsh wren in cattails right by the driveway.
