Stockbridge Audubon, with seven birders, explored Pigeon River FWA in Lagrange and Steuben Counties, Fawn River State Fish Hatchery at Orland, and the sewage lagoons at Kinderhook, Michigan. Birding was slow at first, with only one warbler, two sparrows, almost no waterfowl or shorebirds, etc. It began to pick up after lunch, especially at Fawn River State Fish Hatchery, and even more especially at the sewage lagoons in Kinderhook, Michigan. Sandy Schacht and l (Ed Powers) led the field trip, with Jim Haw's guidance. Total species count 51. In addition to the birds below, participants also saw an eastern box turtle in a grassy trail, and fringed gentians along the roadside. Cynthia Powers noted, "It made me think of that poem 'To a Fringed Gentian' by William Cullen Bryant."
