September 6, 2014 Fox Island
Mosquitoes carried off seven of the twelve participants in Stockbridge Audubon's field trip at Fox Island County Park this morning, led by Rodger Rang and me (Ed Powers). The remaining five retreated to the deck of the nature center, where the mosquito density was at least tolerable and the birds a little more abundant. The birds were still frustratingly hard to see, but we managed 44 species, with nine warblers. The best bird, though, was a PHILADELPHIA VIREO, which appeared briefly, then fled before most of us could see it.
